Arlington City Council 1990-1994
The Law Offices of Roger "Rocky" Walton embody the spirit and principles of
the man who is an advocate for the people in both his legal and personal endeavors.
Rocky Walton fights as passionately and as thoroughly for his legal clients
as he did for the Arlington residents he represented for two terms on the City
Council. Legal and political foes alike have termed him "tenacious, diligent,
well prepared and hard working." Mr. Walton believes in giving back to his community
and in addition to serving on the City Council, spent 3-1/2 years on the Arlington
Planning an Zoning Commission. Included in his many civic honors is the American
Heart Association' s Legislator of the Year award.

Personal
Rocky lived in Cleburne until he age 12, when his family moved to Fort Worth
so his father could attend business school. Rocky was taking lessons on the
steel guitar and standard guitar and began teaching guitar lessons by age 15.
Rocky taught guitar lessons to children and adults while he was attending high
school and college, much of the time having over 100 students each week. During
high school, Rocky also played guitar for a teen rock and roll band called "The
Intruders." They played at teen parties and venues.
When Rocky was in the tenth grade he read his father's Business Law book and
loved it. That year he announced to his speech class during a presentation that
he would become a lawyer and politician, which later came true.
During college in 1968, Rocky married his college sweetheart. They are still
happily married and have three children and two grandchildren.
While in law school, Rocky clerked at law firms and worked his way through law
school with the help of student loans. After finishing law school with a J.D.,
Rocky decided to get an advanced law degree from SMU Law School in taxation
and securities. Fewer than 3% of Texas lawyers have advanced law degrees (LL.M.)
in any area of law.
After practicing tax and securities law for one and one half years with an eight
lawyer firm, Rocky decided to go out on his own and broaden his practice. Rocky
shared office space with several lawyers in Arlington and accepted various types
of cases, including personal injury. In 1976, Rocky moved his wife and baby
to the Wimbledon area in Arlington and began a wonderful personal and professional
life. Rocky later had two more children and was very involved with his children's
activities. He was also very involved with community and political activities.
Of all the people that Rocky enjoyed helping in his practice, he enjoyed helping
injury victims and their families the most. In 1986, he decided to only accept
wrongful death and personal injury cases. The practice of his law firm is still
limited to those areas.
In the 1980s, Rocky was president of his homeowners association and was appointed
to the Arlington Planning and Zoning Commission. In 1990, Rocky was elected
at large to the Arlington City Council and served until 1994, when his law practice
demanded more of his time. At that time, Rocky decided to go through the difficult
and time consuming board certification process. In 1995 he received his certification
in personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He
has been re-certified twice since then, which is every 5 years.
When his children were out of high school and college, Rocky and his wife moved
to the lake so their children and future grandchildren would visit them and
enjoy the "lake toys." They all love the lake and Rocky and Sharon have no plans
to move again.
In 2004, the law firm relocated to the current site in the new and unique Heritage
Rocky Building on Interstate 20. This is only the third location that Rocky
has practiced in law since 1975 and Rocky says he hopes to practice at this
same location for another 15 years.
Rocky still enjoys playing in a band with friends, playing old rock and roll
favorites from the 1950's and 1960's. Some of the songs are the same ones he
played in high school, when they were popular. The band is a nine piece band
called Johnny D & the Doo Wopps. The band plays about 1 or 2 times a month,
usually for private parties.
Rocky says that now his favorite love is playing with his grandchildren, followed
closely by being with all his family and practicing law.
